Tigo Rwanda is happy to announce
the six finalists of the 2016 Tigo Digital Changemakers competition. The six
Tigo Digital Changemakers competition finalists, chosen out of 101 applicants,
were selected following a rigorous vetting process that
involved Tigo, its partner Reach for Change, and external experts.
The four final winners of the
competition will be announced on 9 December.
The fifth edition of the Tigo
Digital Changemakers competition, launched in partnership with non-profit
organization Reach for Change, aims at identifying and supporting four social
entrepreneurs who utilise digital technology to improve society and positively
impact future generations.
The four winning candidates will
each receive a cash prize of Frw 7.5 million as well as access to Reach for
Change’s Incubator programme, which includes business training, access to a
global network of other social entrepreneurs and much more.
Speaking at the launch of
the 2016 Tigo Digital Changemakers competition on 19, October, Tigo
Deputy General Manager, Chantal Umutoni Kagame said: “We recognize the
potential that technology has to solve issues of development. We are looking
for tech entrepreneurs who use digital tools and technology to better the lives
of Rwandans in a meaningful way. At Tigo we are committed to providing the
opportunity for these entrepreneurs to be recognized and supported”.
The Six Tigo Digital
Changemakers competition finalist
- Family Wallet (Erick Joseph)
Erick Joseph has developed a
digital application that helps informal workers save a portion of their
earnings. It also tracks their income and expenses to help them build credit,
access loans and create a better life for themselves and their families through
access to financial services.
- Kepler Tech Lab (Alphonse Habyarimana)
Alphonse Habyarimana leads a
science and engineer lab that empowers Rwandan youth to become the next
generation of digital innovators. The lab will use digital tools and
technologies like 3D printers and laser cutters to provide cutting edge
technology for students to use.
- O'GENIUS PRIORITY LTD (Origene Igiraneza)
Origene Igiraneza runs an
educational platform with a digital laboratory and video tutorials that
provides students with interactive, self-teaching learning materials online or
on smart phones.
- Mimschak Star Ltd (Julien Daniel Mitali)
Julien Daniel Mitali is working
to help high school students assess their understanding academic subjects,
prepare for and pass their school and national examinations through a digital
platform that connects them to learning materials, career development and
specialized teachers.
- iSOKO (Babu Emile)
Emile Babu has developed a
virtual marketplace to help low-income workers not only to earn more income,
but also to lay the foundation for them to build credit so that they can access
small loans to help their families and send their children to school.
- AfroVector (Auxilia Ndamage)
Auxilia Ndamage is working to
include Rwanda's farmers in the financial system by digitizing the agriculture
value chain and providing farmers with the data they need to access to
financial services like savings, loans and pensions so that they can provide
their families with a better future.
