Tigo donates Mutelles de Sante to over 300 Huye residents in ‘Turahabaye’ campaign



On Saturday 1 October, as part of the ‘Turahabaye’ campaign Tigo Rwanda provided Mutuelles de Sante for 333 residents from Ngoma Sector, Huye District who were unable to afford health care. The handover of the medical insurance cards took place in the Centre de Sante Notre Dame de la Route, Matyazo. This  brings the number of Mutuelles de Sante cards distributed during the Turahabaye campaign to 743, after  410 were distributed in Musanze District on 24, September. 





This donation, worth Rwf 1 million, was preceded by a special Umuganda that Tigo participated in to celebrate the start of the Unity and Reconcliation Week in Umuyange Village in Karama Sector, Huye District.  



Turahabaye is a countrywide campaign to celebrate seven years of Tigo in Rwanda. Tigo first entered the Rwandan market in 2009; since then it has been transforming lives throughout the country by offering telecommunication and digital services to Rwandans.

The Turahabaye campaign, which commenced on 16, September in Rwamagana consists of free concerts, meetings with private and public sector partners and corporate responsibility initiatives.

Commenting on the donation, Tigo Rwanda Chief Commercial Officer, Yaw Ankoma Agyapong , who was representing the Chief Executive Officer, said “As a company working in Rwanda, we believe that it is our responsibility to take care of the most vulnerable among us and that is why we are very pleased to be able to ensure that over 700 vulnerable people now have access to health care. 

Speaking at a dinner that Tigo hosted for Southern Province private and public sector leaders on 30, September, the Governor of the Southern Province, Alphonse Munyentwari, thanked Tigo for investing in the country;
“Through Tigo, more Rwandans now are able to access mobile financial services and communication tools. This has led to job creation. We also appreciate the support that Tigo has given to women entrepreneurs as well as the poor. We urge Tigo to continue its good partnership with the Southern Province. On our part as the Southern Province leadership we promise to continue to provide a good business environment, most especially when it comes to security”



Following the donation of the Mutuelles de Sante cards, Tigo hosted a free concert for Huye residents at the Ngoma Sector grounds. Over jubilant 1,000 Huye residents were entertained by the Tigo Brand Ambassadors Bruce Melodie, Christopher and the Dream Boys. 



About Tigo Women Entrepreneurship Fund

Tigo Rwanda launched the Frw 50 million Tigo Women Entrepreneurship Fund in partnership with the National Women Council during the International Women’s Day celebrations in Butare Cell, Gasabo District on 8, March 2016.  The Fund is providing startup capital to more than 300 women from across the country to open mobile money businesses. On February 22, Tigo Rwanda signed the Connected Women Commitment Initiative during the GSMA Mobile World Congress Barcelona, Spain. The initiative aims to reduce the gender gap in mobile internet and mobile money services and empower all women and girls. The Tigo Women Entrepreneurship Fund is in line with Tigo’s commitment to increase the number of women using mobile financial services from 39 per cent today to 45 per cent by 2020.
